Hi Coconut Lovers!
Gosh its been a long minute since I last wrote in. My sincere apologies to you all. Life got in the way and I decided to take a break from updating my blog… I hope you all have been well and loving the recipes in the meantime! That being said, I felt it was time to write in and give you an update on all that has happened, and is happening. Where to start…
Last year at this time I injured my ankle in a big way and that threw my entire 2016 for a loop. I literally missed the entire first half of my WSL world tour season, and I couldn’t seem to get my groove back once I started up again for the back half of the year. It can be easy to get down in those moments, but I honestly learned so much through my injury and my road to recovery.
When you get injured, and you can’t do the one thing that you love most in life and that makes you happy, it takes a huge toll on you both physically, and mentally. However, in these hard times I began to realize that it is also possible for the most beautiful times of growth to happen…if you allow them.
Aside from becoming extremely motivated for 2017 and getting my ankle back on track, my mindset as a surfer, competitor, and overall person has completely changed. I realized so much about myself as a person and who I want to become and strive to be. I also realized to not take health and life for granted. It Is such a blessing to be healthy and at any moment that can change. So in hindsight, as crazy as it might sound, I wouldn’t take the injury back if I could.
Now here I am a year later and ready to roll for the world tour. I arrived in Australia a few weeks ago to spend some time near Bells Beach and get into shape before heading to the Gold Coast to compete in our first event of the year at Snapper Rocks. The Roxy Pro now kicks off in a few days and I couldn’t be more excited about it, or in a better headspace than I am right now!
Training is going amazing. I love feeling my best and so when I get to this time of year where I really focus even more on diet, training and surfing I love it. Being the best YOU is truly an incredible feeling! So many people in life don’t allow themselves the opportunity to become the best version of themselves. They come to a point where it gets “too hard”, or “too busy”, to continue following a dream or a passion. At the end of the day, you can achieve whatever you want in life. I have realized that the people who are most successful are the ones who don’t complain and don’t let bumps in the rode stop them. It actually makes them better and hungrier. The human mind is the most powerful tool we have as people and so many times, myself included, we let it hold us back from reaching our full potential.
So with that all being said, I hope this blog in some way inspires you jump up, look life in the face, get motivated, and truly go after that dream you have been holding onto. Don’t let others tell you that you can’t let the bumps and jumps make you better – make you stronger – make you appreciate everything even more than before – because if that was the case I wouldn’t be standing here on the cusp of a new season feeling like anything is possible!
Hope to be writing in a bit more and doing a few little updates here on the TSC, so please keep checking back in and write in if you have any cool workouts, recipes, ideas you want to share! I would love to hear them!
